morganroberts supported the design and implementation of the successful Raise the Roof campaign. This campaign asked the Treasury to raise the rent-a-room tax allowance to £7,500 – the allowance had not been raised since March 1997.
For six years the campaign gathered support from charities, politicians and flat sharers presenting the case for change as part of a package to tackle both the cost of housing and the cost of living.
In the budget of July 2015 Chancellor George Osborne MP announced that the rent-a-room tax allowance would be raised to £7,500.00.
Matt Hutchinson Communications Director said “The advice and guidance we had from Morgan Roberts helped us turn an idea into a strategy and, ultimately, a change to a tax threshold benefiting millions of people.”
Following the campaign the principle campaigners Spareroom.co.uk have been invited to work with the Housing Department to promote the tax changes.
